A policy of funding translation provides incentives to publishers and contributes to increase the works by Portuguese authors and Portuguese-speaking African authors available in foreign languages. (Application form)

HOW TO APPLY |
The applications are submitted by the publisher and include a form, supplied by the DGLB, and the following documents:

Copyright contract;

Translation contract (which must mention the cost of translation);

Declaration-form (supplied by DGLB);

Catalogue from the publishing house. |

WHEN TO APPLY |
- There is only one competition each year;
- The applications are submitted by the publishers, until the 31st March;
- All the applications received after this date are immediately included in the competition of the following year.

PUBLISHER'S ENGAGEMENT |
- To send back to the DGLB one copy of the contract signed by both parties ;
- To acknowledge DGLB support by the phrase
"Funded by The General Directorate for Book and Libraries/ Portugal”;
to be printed in the book, along with the logos (follow the link) of the DGLB and the Ministry of Culture;
- To confirm the payment, sending back to the DGLB the declaration-form sent with the bank cheque (signed by the translator and the publisher);
- To send 5 copies of the translated book to the DGLB;
- To inform the DGLB of any changes regarding the application.

DGLB's ENGAGEMENT |
- To send two copies of the contract (drawn by the DGLB) to be signed by both parties;
- To pay for the financial support after the reception of the contract duly signed.
- Payments will be made by international cheque adressed to the publisher.

OTHERS ANNOUCEMENTS |
- Forms may be submitted by post, fax or e-mail. The remaining documents should be sent by post;
- The amount of the aid is paid by bank cheque, addressed to the publisher, until the end of the year.

Please note: 1. In case the book is not published under the terms approved, the DGLB may denounce the contract. |
