DGLB is responsible for negotiating with African partners and, together with Biblioteca Nacional (National Library) and Instituto dos Arquivos Nacionais Torre do Tombo (Torre do Tombo Archive Institute), for coordinating any action aimed at promoting books, reading and documentary information.
Funded by the Ministry of Culture, Network is also involved in Portuguese cooperation with other countries and the institutions responsible for this area (Instituto Camões and Instituto Português de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento – Portuguese Development Support Institute). DGLB is the executive body, appointed by a joint dispatch issued by the Ministry of Culture and the Secretariat of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Portuguese State’s only representative for these purposes.

BOOK AND READING PROMOTION AND DISSEMINATION.
Portuguese Book Fairs and other initiatives are held, the aim of which is to promote reading and publicise literary and cultural work; |
SUPPORT FOR THE TRANSLATION OF PORTUGUESE-LANGUAGE AFRICAN AUTHORS. Support is granted for the translation and dissemination of works by Portuguese-Language African authors, and for the publication of works proposed by national coordinators in each country. |
REACTIVATION OF PRINTING PRESSES AND BOOK DISTRIBUTION AND SALES NETWORKS. |
